Job Description

Plan, execute and implement the litigation & tribunal functions and activities for KOPETRO and its subsidiaries including organizing the litigation/tribunal matters, review legal documents/evidence for hearing & trial, negotiations & reporting, attend to ad-hoc matters and other duties to ensure maximum protection of the organization’s legal rights and safeguard KOPETRO interest in line with company direction.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and monitor pre-litigation legal disputes, inquiries and the progress of the litigation cases by collecting the supporting information (facts of the case, case chronology, contracts, agreements, police report etc.), to ensure smooth and timely execution of the services and solution as per legal and business requirements.
  2. Plan, facilitate and review litigation/tribunal matters and court documents involving the group of companies through liaising with and instructing external solicitors in respect of litigation matters to ensure KOPETRO’s affairs are conducted in conformance with corporate governance requirements and relevant laws.
  3. Control and monitor the appointed counsels (for the strategy) specific to quality of work and effective delivery of legal support through regular engagement and tracking of the deadline to optimize the success outcome and protect the company’s interest.
  4. Plan and execute the process of taking over any doubtful/bad debt cases including members’ default payments and long outstanding payments using legal reminder notice and legal action in order to recover all the money and mitigate financial and legal risk in accordance with Act and Regulation.
  5. Compile and consolidate litigation & tribunal report such as litigation status report, tribunal status report, case number and final report etc. by interpreting multiple reporting and reviewing report outcomes to ensure timely update to the management and maximum protection of the organization’s legal rights.
  6. Advise and provide regular update to the management on key developments in laws and latest changes in Acts and Regulations through awareness publication, email circulation, enhanced procedures and manuals in line with changes in the laws such as the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), Bankruptcy Act and Anti-Corruption Act in order to comply with the latest regulations and guidelines.
  7. Plan, prepare and implement the yearly litigation & tribunal budget such as Operation Expenditure (OPEX) and Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) through proper analysis of actual expenses, previous performance trending and business forecast in order to meet the departmental target and objective.
  8. Establish and build effective working relationships and rapport with panel lawyers, Insolvency Department, Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) etc. by participating in forums, conferences, workshops, visits, meetings, regular engagements etc. in order to keep abreast with the latest development and capture opportunities for new business whilst sustain long term business relationship and company credibility.

Job Requirements

– Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB) (Hons) or equivalent
– Minimum 2 to 5 years relevant experience working in a law firm or in-house legal department.
